Northern Lights (Norway and Iceland)

The main goal on our trip do the north circle was to chase the Northern Lights. We know one needs a lot of luck (regarding the weather and the lights themselves) to see them, but we couldn’t believe how “easy” it was. We saw the lights in various situations and I have a handfull of different results in the pictures. Of course I didn’t take as much photos as I should (as a Photographer), but beeing my first time I really wanted to enjoy the moment :-)

First, we saw just a little bit (enough to get really really exited!) of the Lights over the city of Tromsø. We didn’t planned on seing the Lights that day, but it happened. It was really faint, because of all the city luminosity:

On the next day we took a proper tour to the countryside. The Lights were just amazing and magical that night!

Excited, we decided to rent a car on the following morning, to drive around the Troms region, and try to see the Lights again at night :-) And we did:

Later that week we went to Iceland. We waited, and waited, and waited at the Icebergs Lake (Jokusarlon)… The Lights were not so strong, but definately beautiful. Iceland had the most stary sky I’ve ever seen:

After some hours we gave up waiting (it was REALLY cold.) We put all the photo gear back in the trunk and started driving back to the hotel. Of course that’s when the Lights, in their magical and unpredictable way (as the Nature usually is), decided to dance over our heads. We stopped right there. Nature and babies are the best teachers on the patience subject :-)

One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, no doubts.
